Wednesday Blog Thing.....

     I am one happy Indie Girl! There is a ton of Star Wars stuff floating around on the web. Due to the soon to be released Blu-Ray Trilogy of Star Wars, everyone is talking about what to expect. Here is a link to one of the many "leaked footage" from the Blu-Ray.  You can view a few different clips on Youtube.  See what the new younger Yoda will look like and a scene between Darth Vadar and Luke. Whether or not these clips will show up on the discs keeps the fans wondering.

      There is one more very important thing all Star Wars fans need to check out. It is the jambedavdar's channel on Youtube. Fan Made Star Wars Documentaries. Can I just say AWESOME! Loads of behind the scenes footage! There's stuff in there I had no clue existed in the Star Wars Univerise.  I watched the one entitled Star Wars Begins which is about 2 hours long with tons of stuff for any Star Wars fan to drool over. Also, enjoyed the Cantina Scene in black and white it reminded me of those old silent movies. Just imagining Star Wars as a silent movie.  Very cool so worth checking out!

Indie Girl Gets Her Geek On At The Fair.

It has been YEARS since I've been to our local fair.  So when Dad offered for me to come along with him, I agreed. Lamar does know how to put on a good fair.  There were lots of booths, animals, and food lots and lots of food.

You can't go to a fair without checking out all the farm animals. Of course there is your typical cow, chicken, and bunny.  Also, large sheep that look like killers. They were huge! I just always imagine a little white ball of fluff as a sheep. Personally, I found the chickens to be fascinating. I have always wanted to raise chickens, though with 5 cats I can see where a problem might occur.
Along with my Dad, our next stop was food. We had delicious pulled beef, chips, beans and tea. The only weird thing was eating standing up. They had this large table’s chest high and you just picked a spot and ate. Kinda out of my comfort zone. I hate eating with people I don't know standing that close to them. The food though was EXCELLANT!

Whenever you attend a fair it is customary to eat a Funnel Cake. I purchased one and found the thing to be bigger than my face. Wow, a combination of grease and powder sugar. It was divine. Who in their right mind doesn't enjoy grease and powdered sugar?

After stuffing ourselves full, we then went to the rodeo. I am not a huge fan of the rodeo, but I do appreciate the history and the part it plays in our culture out here in the west. The skill it takes to do what those cowboys do amazed me.

Last, but not least, we went to the carnival. Whenever I think of the carnival, I think of that X-Files episode where Scully and Mulder run into all these strange, creepy carnie people. I've got a chill just thinking about it. (Good episode worth digging out your old X-Files dvds and watching) This carnival was great - lots of lights, music and games for all ages. What I really appreciated was the safety. The Sheriff’s department was out roaming the grounds. This allowed families to feel comfortable even late at night.

I certainly enjoyed myself and look forward to next year’s fair. Indie Girl out! :)

Book Club

I truly apologize for the lack of a blog Saturday.  Due to school, illness, and work I was not able to write one. :(

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

Chapter 1

In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that I’ve been turning over in my mind ever since.
“Whenever you feel like criticizing any one,” he told me, “just remember that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had.” (Firzgerald 2007 )

Set in the jazz age (after WWI) we know this period of history to be the "Roaring Twenties" a time when the war had ended and the Victorian ways stripped away and new modern freedoms where accepted. Women cut their hair short, wore shorter dresses, and Jazz was the new sensation.

We understand that our main character Carraway is not as wealthy as the people he will meet with throughout this novel. Carraway must work and we know that he is getting started in the Bond business. He lives on West Egg Village which is different than the East Egg since on East Egg all the wealthy people lived. I know in my own town people who live on Willow Valley are considered to be the well to do people. It's funny how things such as where you live change your status.

Carraway is invited to dine with some friends that he hadn't seen in ages. They live on East Egg and are very fashionable well to do people. Tom Buchanan is a mean spirited ex-football player who does not work but lives off his money. His wife is a mere shadow of herself Daisy Buchannan.

Though Carraway has less money than the Buchanans it is interesting to note that he seems to be the only one well, happy or at least with his head on straight. I think this chapter shows us clearly that wealth does not bring happiness and that having all the advantages in the world does not make you a better person.

Do you notice that we only catch a glimpse of the Great Gatsby in the first chapter? Him standing outside with his arms stretched out gazing at a green light. Interesting way to introduce a character especially one who is the title of the book.

The Return of the Wednesday Blog Thing.

Have you ever been so tired that your too tired to be tired? Well I feel like that this week. I don't know if i'm coming down with something or if work as just been so crazy that i can't handle the craziness. At any rate with a hot cup of coffee I feel that maybe I can force my body not to fall asleep at my desk, and just maybe I will not need to drink an iced esspresso. No, I will be drinking a double shot of iced esspresso that sounds good.

Below are a few things that have caught my eye this week:

1.  New Star Wars Clone Wars Season 4 video: http://youtu.be/g2niJLIeLn8

2.  National Book Week on Facebook:  Take the time to read a book. Sad though that most people do not read. http://www.facebook.com/pages/National-Book-Week/140716185965124

3.  Think of all the shows that you watch that you know you should hate but, you can't stop watching them. Here is a list of mine:
     * Toddlers & Tiaras
     *  My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding
     *  Teen Mom

4.  Snow White and the Huntsman:  A new movie that I am really looking forward to. I'm personally am sick of the Disney Princesses so this is a nice change. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1735898/ Click the link to find out more. If any of you know, Disney watered down the tales of Snow White.  Thats fine, it is for children.  It's just nice to see a tough princess for a change.
