The Great Gastby

I'm going to start a book club of sorts. If you would like to read along with me that would be great. If you want to make any comments please post them or message me on Facebook. I know that it is too complicated trying to post a comment in Blogger so just leave any comments that you have on my Facebook page or email them to me at indiegirl2011@yahoo.com

I am not scheduling a time that you have to read. Just read at your own pace. At each chapter I will post a question or comment I just want to know how you feel about what you read. My goal is to get people interested in reading again.

There are two books that I want to discuss once again you do not have to read both. The first one will be The Great Gatsby by Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald and the second one is The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Next Saturday (or whenever I feel like it) I will post something on each book.

The VlogBrothers are also reading The Great Gatsby here is the link to that video.

Book Worms Unite!!!

Yes, I read a lot and yes, I have a lot of books. Here is my reading list for August.

1. The Hobbit By J.R.R Tolkien - I read the entire Lord of the Rings series at least once a year.

2.  Percy Jackson and the Olympians  By Rick Riordan - EXCELLENT books for both children and adults. The author is a genius mixing Greek history with the modern world. A great way to brush up on Greek mythology. Also, a great tool to help children learn a little about Greek history. This series sits right next to my Harry Potter books.

3. The Great Gatsby F. Scott Fitsgerald - Just started this book. So far so good.

4.  Mountain Men by George Laycoc - History of the trappers out here in the west. Amazing stories of their battles with the Native American tribes, nature, and what they discovered.

If anyone has read any of these books let me know what you think about them.

How To Be Selfish

Did my title shock you? Hope it did. I really think that the human race does not need a "How To Be Selfish Guide", it seems we can be selfish pretty easily. I know for myself I struggle looking past myself and looking at others. A constant battle.

Worrying is a bad habit that I have. I seem unable to let things go and just move on. Consumed with my own worry I only think about myself during those moments. I caught myself doing that a few days ago I was worrying about stuff I had no control over what a waste of time. It was then that I thought of a friend of mine who has been looking for a job and the stress that person must be going through. Yeah, that made me realize I’m worrying way too much about myself.

I think in some ways our culture makes us feel that we deserve things. Ads that say you deserve this expense car, electronic, or some useless object we think we might need. Truth is we can't have everything and sometimes getting what we want well, that doesn't always bring happiness. Be thankful for what you do have and remember that they are those that are homeless, struggling with debt, or who are unemployed.

Jesus lived for others, cared for the poor, and loved those who hated him. He was not concerned with the things of earth but lived to serve. I guess we need to live to serve.

Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.

Selfishness is the greatest curse of the human race.
